Equations of Lines
The pointslope form of the equation for a line with slope m
which passes through the point (x_{ 1} ; y_{ 1})
is
y y_{ 1} = m (x x_{ 1})
1. Find the slope and a point on the line whose equation is .
2. Find an equation of the line which passes through the
points (2, 5) and (1, 3).
Nonvertical parallel lines have the same slope.
Examples:
1. Find an equation for the line parallel to 2x 3y = 5 which
passes through the point (2, 1).
2. Are the lines 5x 2y = 4 and 15x = 6y + 3 parallel or not?
